Many people think that installing the piston rings of a motorcycle is very simple, just plug them in in order. It is estimated that after reading this sentence, some people start to curl their lips. This is very simple. I have been repairing cars for more than ten years, and they have been plugged in smoothly, and there has never been a problem.

In reality, this may indeed be the case. Such imprecise installation methods may not cause major problems, but too low assembly accuracy will definitely affect the power and life of the engine, and even lead to premature oil burning.

Let's get to know the piston ring first. As shown in the picture above, from left to right are the piston pin, piston, clip, and piston ring.

After the piston ring is installed on the piston, it is as shown in the picture above. From top to bottom, there are two gas rings and one oil ring. The main function of the gas ring is to seal the compressed gas mixture and high temperature and high pressure gas. The main function of the oil ring is It is to scrape the excess lubricating oil on the cylinder arm.

Piston rings should be assembled strictly according to the method shown in the figure. The new piston ring set should have a proper break-in period. There are four main steps to install.

Step 1: Install the backing ring

Step 2: Install the air ring

Step 3: Combine the oil ring

Step 4: Adjust the opening position of the gas ring and oil ring

If you want to accurately assemble the piston ring, you should also pay attention to the following points when installing.

1. Before installing the ring, carefully check the piston ring, check its model, specification and quantity, keep the piston ring and ring groove clean, and coat the ring with a little oil.

2. Maintain horizontal installation and should not open or pinch the piston ring at will. Since the piston ring is required to have high dimensional and geometric accuracy, care should be taken not to destroy this accuracy during assembly. If the piston ring is pulled or pinched by hand without keeping the open ends of the ring in a horizontal plane, the ring will be twisted or warped, the shape will also change and it will easily break. Therefore, when assembling the ring, it is best to use a special loading and unloading caliper to avoid manual assembly. Generally, when the opening of the ring is enlarged to 8T, it can be inserted into the ring groove of the piston head. If the opening is too large, it will cause excessive deformation.

3. The opening positions of each ring should be staggered from each other, so as to create a "labyrinth" channel and reduce air leakage and oil channeling. The opening position should be avoided in the direction of the piston pin and the direction of the side pressure.

4. The combined oil ring is generally installed by hand. Whether it is a sheet steel belt lining spring or a serpentine lining spring, the closing part cannot be on the axis of the piston pin, and should be staggered by 60°~90°.
